– A daily reading habit leads to funding in the hundreds of millions… Ranked No. 1 in the Kids category for educational materials and stationery
Wadiz(CEO Shin Hye-seong, www.wadiz.io) announced on the 30th that content designed to support “learning” in everyday life is gaining prominence on Kids Funding. Funding for children’s newspaper projects launched over the past year totaled approximately 1.06 billion won, a 2.2-fold increase compared to the previous year. Notably, the majority of participants in follow-up funding rounds for flagship brands were supporters who had participated in that brand’s campaign for the first time, indicating a trend of expanding the readership base following an initial success.
The composition of children’s crowdfunding is also changing. Over the past year, the total amount raised for educational toys and stationery reached approximately 2.99 billion won—18 times the amount raised during the same period three years ago. This category accounted for 38% of the total crowdfunding amount in the children’s category, surpassing baby and parenting products for the first time to take the top spot. Alongside products for child care, the share of content designed to foster learning and critical thinking has grown significantly.
The Children’s Newspaper is a prime example of this trend. It not only outlines what children will learn but also provides specific daily practice guidelines—such as “one page a day” or “10 minutes a day”—so that parents and children can easily understand how to use it and incorporate it into their daily lives.
“Shift Kids,” which completed its second crowdfunding campaign on the 18th, raised over 200 million won for its “Shift Kids Newspaper: One Page a Day” project—nearly double the approximately 100 million won raised during its first campaign last April. The project combines the latest news articles, workbooks, and practical essay-writing exercises into a single page each day, linking reading to activities that help children express their own thoughts.
Previously, “Reading Times”’ “10 Minutes a Day Kids’ Newspaper” also grew through three rounds of crowdfunding. Targeting children from age 7 through fourth grade, it introduced content designed to be read in 10 minutes a day along with subscription packages, expanding its funding from approximately 250 million won in the first round to 460 million won in the second and 720 million won in the third.
It is worth noting that the project attracted new supporters in subsequent funding rounds. Among the participants in the second funding round for “Shift Kids Newspaper,” 98% were first-time contributors to the brand, while 89% and 86% of the participants in the second and third funding rounds for “10 Minutes a Day Kids Newspaper,” respectively, were also first-time contributors to the brand. This indicates that the demand identified in the first funding round is not limited to existing participants but is expanding to a broader readership.
Heo Ji-eun, COO (Chief Operating Officer) of Wadiz, said, “Children’s Newspaper is an example of a company that validated its market potential at Wadizwith content tailored to everyday learning needs and grew by attracting more supporters in its next funding round.” She added, “Going forward, we will continue to provide parents with new options for their children’s education and expand opportunities for creators to grow their customer base and businesses beyond their initial success.”
